The Slough media websites have today posted a story placed by the Slough Sikh Education Trust’s (SSET) central London-based public relations company about Mr Kandolas’ request to meet the Parish Council to discuss transport issues arising from their wish to occupy the Pioneer House site. The SSET news release also stated that the open meeting, set by Mr Kandola for 18 April as his alternative to attending the Parish Council’s public meeting, which he declined to attend on 14 March has been cancelled.

It would be fair comment to note that Mr Kandola appears to attach more importance to announcing meetings to the press than actually attending them.

The SSET media release was far more detailed than Mr Kandola’s brief email to Cllr Carter. The story was placed with the press before Cllr Carter had the opportunity to consult colleagues and reply to Mr Kandola.

The Parish Council is committed to openness and transparency, so the email exchange is published on this website. Personal email addresses have been blurred out in respect of Data Protection considerations, otherwise the email exchange is published in full.

NHS 111 is now live in Buckinghamshire, which means everyone in the county can access a new telephone service that has been introduced to make it easier to access local health services, when they have an urgent need.

If you need to contact the NHS for urgent care there are three numbers to know; 999 for life-threatening emergencies; your GP surgery; or 111.

When you call 111 you will be assessed, given advice and directed straight away to the local service that can help you best – that could be an out-of-hours doctor, minor injuries and illness unit, community nurse, emergency dentist or late opening chemist.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls from landlines and mobile phones are free.

The service is being introduced nationally and will be available throughout the country by the end of 2013.

How does it work?

111 will get you through to a team of fully trained call advisers, who are supported by experienced nurses. They will ask questions to assess your symptoms and give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you to the right local service.

The NHS 111 team will, where possible, book an appointment or transfer you directly to the people you need to speak to. If they think you need an ambulance, one will be sent just as quickly as if you had dialled 999.

For less urgent health needs, patients should still contact their GP or local pharmacist in the usual way.

When do you use it?

You should call 111 if you:

need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency;

don’t know who to call for medical help or you don’t have a GP to call;

think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service; or

require health information or reassurance about what to do next.

Why should you use it?

When you need health care urgently, NHS 111 will direct you straight away to the local service that can help you best.

NHS 111 can help take the pressure off the 999 service and local A&E departments, so they can focus on emergency cases.

Message sent by
Kerry White (Police, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), Chiltern & South Bucks LPA)

We have been made aware about a suspicious phone call where someone stated they were working on behalf of the police. They said they were working as part of the crime prevention team and wanted to know about the caller’s home. This is not the police and we would not be carrying out such phone calls. Please be aware and be careful with what details you are passing over the phone.

Almost everyone will be approached by a scammer at some stage. Some scams are very easy to spot while other scams may appear to be genuine offers or bargains. Scams can even take place without you doing anything at all.

Most scams need you to do something before they can work. You may send money to someone based on a promise that turns out to be false. You may give your personal details to people who turn out to be scammers. Some scams rely on you agreeing to deals without getting advice first or buying a product without checking it out properly.

The simple tips below will help you protect yourself and your family from scams. Scams can cost people a lot of money and cause a great deal of distress. By following these simple tips, you can protect yourself against scams.

· If you receive a phone call out of the blue, always ask for the name of the person you are speaking to and who they represent.

· Do not give your personal, credit card or online account details over the phone unless you made the call and the phone number came from a trusted source.

· It is best not to respond to text messages or missed calls that come from numbers you don’t recognise.

· Be careful of phone numbers beginning with 190. These are charged at a premium rate and can be very expensive.

· Look out for SMS and MMS numbers that start with 19. These are charged at a premium rate (sometimes even for receiving a message) and can be very expensive.

· Do not let anyone pressure you into making decisions about money or investments: always get independent financial advice.

· If you do not feel comfortable, just hang up.

If you think you have been a victim of a scam and would like further advice, then please call Action Fraud on: 0300 123 2040. Alternatively, please call Trading Standards on 08454 040506.
