1st Stoke Poges Air Scout Group
Scouting is the largest youth movement in the UK with membership approaching ½ million. The secret of its success is the provision of interesting and challenging activities to young people in a controlled environment and, while camping and other outdoor pursuits are still very popular, our programmes are constantly under review to ensure we remain attractive and relevant to the children of today.
The 1st Stoke Poges Scout Group was established in 1909 just two years after the first experimental camp on Brownsea Island and is among the oldest in the country. Today it welcomes members – both boys and girls – from the village and the local area.
The Group is divided into three sections:
- The Beaver Colony for 6-8 year olds offering fun and friendship
- The Cub Pack for 8-10 year olds with a more adventurous and structured programme
- The Scout Troop for 10-14 year olds providing challenging activities
The Group is led by a strong team of volunteer leaders, supported by a parents’ committee.
Beyond the age of 14 there are two further sections operating locally. These place emphasis on the Duke of Edinburgh’s and Queen’s Scout Awards and the programmes are largely planned and implemented by the youth members.
If you are interested in joining any of the sections please contact the Group Scout Leader in the first instance: Mark Relf on 01753 643729. We also welcome adults who would like to help in any way.
