Stoke Poges Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Group

Stoke Poges Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Group

This group commenced in a small way over 30 years ago as part of what was known as the “Housewives Project”. It was then registered with Bucks County Council as a Voluntary Youth Group in 1991.

The group has a dedicated team of highly experienced, qualified expedition leaders who give their time for nothing to run Bronze and Silver expedition programmes. This means we can offer our expeditions at a significantly lower price than commercial or school groups without compromising on safety or quality.

Participants can enrol with us for their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. We run Bronze and Silver expeditions ourselves and signpost participants to expedition companies at Gold level. Our Bronze expedition programme runs through spring and early summer, with an assessment expedition in the Chilterns at the end of June, and our Silver expedition programme runs in the autumn, with the assessment in the Peak District in October. We provide comprehensive training on navigation, campcraft and first aid and encourage teamwork and resilience as they rise to the challenge. We also provide support, guidance and advice to participants and parents on all aspects of their awards, with most of our leaders being Gold Award holders.

We take enrolments throughout the year and are open to young people from within the village, surrounding areas, further afield, friendship groups and siblings. The group coordinator organises termly welcome meetings in Stoke Poges and can also meet with parents at a suitably convenient time and location to discuss the award and opportunities on a more personal level.

Without a team of dedicated leaders this group could not exist and be of such great value to the locality. All the leaders are disclosure barring service (DBS) checked, hold first aid certificates, and most are qualified in outdoor leadership.
