What's On in Stoke Poges

A community group including workshops and information around health and wellbeing. This month's topic is scam awareness.

This project is a collaboration between Stoke Poges Parish Council, Carers Bucks, Threeways Surgery and NHS Buckinghamshire. Guest speakers and workshops will be planned monthly and there will be an opportunity to speak confidentially if preferred.

For our first meeting in the autumn, we have invited Cally Foster for a talk entitled ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Retirement’ which sounds very intriguing. In fact, she will be telling us about her life of drama and masses of mishaps.

The WI offers friendship, community support, educational opportunities, new activities and fun. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month, 2.15pm - 4pm at Stoke Poges Village Hall.

Guided by experts, this family friendly event offers fun activities and the opportunity to track and learn more about bats. Spaces are limited and booking is required.
Cost: £7.50 for adults, £5 for under 16s.

The opportunity to enjoy teas, coffees, homemade cakes and treats within the beautiful setting of the gardens to raise much needed funds for Macmillan. All welcome.

On Wednesday 14th October, we will learn how to be ‘GREAT – from the inside out’ in a talk by our guest speaker Niki Hall. She runs an image consultancy locally and will be telling us how to pack a capsule wardrobe for a weekend away and know what to take and how to pack it. She will also be explaining how to choose colours that suit us best.

Regular attendees at our concerts will know that our three main events each year are in support of nominated local charities and good causes, with all ticket and raffle prize sales on the night being donated to the charity. In order to do this, the choir has to raise its own funds to cover the costs of rehearsals, music hire, professional fess to musicians etc. One such fundraiser is our annual Quiz Night, which this year is being held on Saturday 17th October. This is always a fun night for 15 regular or first-time quizzers, and your support would be greatly appreciated.

This concert will showcase the great tradition of choral writing by British composers in a compilation of works from the 16th century by William Byrd and Thomas Tallis, through to modern day writers including John Rutter and Karl Jenkins. There is no shortage of other great music to choose from the five centuries in between, and there will certainly be some Handel, Elgar, Parry, Vaughn Williams, Britten and Holst.
